Grice’s accolades are a distant second to a Championship

February 28, 2014

Guard Jasmine Grice of Florida A&M’s women’s basketball team is having a solid season in her final year as a Rattler. Wait, that is a huge understatement. The Graduate student has been nothing short of spectacular this season.

In addition to leading the MEAC in three-pointers made and free-throw percentages, Grice leads the conference in scoring with 24.7 points per game, which is tied for sixth in the nation, and she amps up her average to 27.7 when playing conference opponents.

But, it is not all offense for the Quincy, Fla., native; Grice has the fifth-most steals in FAMU history, and this season she averages 3.74 steals per contest, which makes her the nation’s top thief.

Grice was named the MEAC co-preseason player of the year along with Alyssa Bennett of Hampton University, and she was voted on the 2013-14 All-MEAC First-Team.

This season alone, she has received five MEAC player of the week honors.

But, Grice is not keeping track, in fact, her individual success means little to her especially if the team is not winning. Grice’s number one priority is putting her team in the best position to win, and obtaining the ultimate goal of winning a championship.

Grice not the most talkative Rattler, but she was nice enough to have a few words with me after practice:
